CO-4 Poll: Musgrave (R) 46% Paccione (D) 42% - Survey USA

Republican Incumbent Musgrave Faces Strong Challenge in CO4: In an election for the U.S. House of Representatives today, 8/16/06, in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District, incumbent Republican Marilyn Musgrave defeats Democratic challenger Angie Paccione, but just barely, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted exclusively for KUSA-TV Denver. 12 weeks from the 11/7/06 general election, Musgrave gets 46% of the vote. Paccione gets 42%. This is within the poll’s 4.7 percentage point margin of sampling error. Republicans need Musgrave to hold this seat to retain control of the U.S. House. Democrats have targeted Musgrave as they attempt to re-capture control of the U.S. House. Musgrave gets 76% of Republican votes. Paccione gets 82% of Democrat votes. Independents favor Paccione 5:3. Reform Party candidate Eric Eidsness, supported by 8% of likely voters, appears to be siphoning votes from Musgrave: 7% of Republicans but only 2% of Democrats support Eidsness. Republicans outnumber Democrats among likely voters by 46% to 27%. Paccione runs strongly among the most educated voters: she leads by 23 among those who have attended graduate school. Musgrave leads 10:1 among those who approve of President Bush’s performance. Paccione leads 5:1 among those who disapprove of Bush. President George W. Bush’s approval rating among likely voters in Colorado’s 4th Congressional District is 44%. Musgrave was first elected to Congress in 2002.
