OH Governor Poll: Strickland (D) 57% Blackwell (R) 35% - Survey USA

Democrat Take-Away in Ohio Governor: In an election for Governor of Ohio today, 8/8/2006, Democrat Ted Strickland defeats Republican Ken Blackwell, according to a SurveyUSA poll conducted for WCPO-TV Cincinnati, WKYC-TV Cleveland, and WYTV-TV Youngstown. Strickland, currently representing Ohio’s 6th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives, gets 57%. Blackwell, currently Ohio Secretary of State, gets 35%. Compared to an identical SurveyUSA tracking poll released two months ago, Strickland is up 4 points, Blackwell is down 2. Strickland had led by 16, today leads by 22. Among males, Strickland had led by 4, now 15. Among younger voters, Blackwell had been tied, now trails by 35. 22% of Republicans cross over to vote for Democrat Strickland; only 6% of Democrats cross-over and vote for Republican Blackwell. Independents break 5:2 for Strickland. Conservatives vote overwhelmingly for Blackwell, but Strickland leads among moderates 7:2. Incumbent Republican Governor Bob Taft is term-limited. The seat is open. The election is in 13 weeks, on 11/7/2006.
